Phone call saying I was approved for a loan I never applied for

I got a call from someone saying they had an approval for me for a $5,000 loan. Said it was important I return the call. Gave me the number 1-877-317-1969 and extension 2.

The thing is, I never applied for any loan. I don't know who these people are or how they got my number. I didn't lose any money because I didn't call them back, but it still felt weird getting a call like that out of nowhere. Just a recorded message or maybe a live person, I'm not sure.
