Got a weird email from someone at Clover billing asking for statements

I got an email from someone named Clifford. He said he was from the billing department at Clover. He claimed we had overpaid on some fees and that he was calculating how much we were owed back. Then he asked me to send him our most recent merchant services processing statements.

That felt off to me, so I didn't send anything. I called Clover, or Fiserv, directly myself to check. They confirmed it wasn't true. There was no overpayment. The whole thing was just strange.
