Went looking for Family Tree Maker help and got charged for fake software

I went online looking for a phone number for Family Tree Maker. I didn’t know they only do live chats on their website. I needed help updating from 2017 to 2024. They helped me out and I guess I did let them onto my computer.

They downloaded something they said was FTM 2024 and charged me for lifetime support. They wanted payment through something called VERTEX SOLUTION. It was $200 USD which came to $281.48 CAD. This all happened back in March.

Then at the start of May I got in touch with MacKiev about something with 2024 and they told me I don’t actually have FTM 2024. MacKiev said they are the trusted site. That’s when I figured out I got scammed. I paid $53.76 CAD for the real download. I called the number the Family Tree Support people gave me and they said they were legit but I really doubt it.
