Someone sent me a check for a job and wanted me to cash it

Got an email from this person about a job. They sent me a personal check in the mail and told me to deposit it into my bank account. Then I had to send them a copy of the receipt and call them after.

The check came from an address in North Canton, Ohio. Their email was [email protected] and the phone number is (701) 578-2178. I didn't lose any money because I didn't do it. It just felt strange that they wanted me to cash a check and send proof right away. No website or anything.
