Got a fake job offer after a text-only interview on Teams

I got an email from a recruiter and then was sent to talk to the "Hiring Manager," someone named Laura Crum. They set up an interview for a few days later. The whole thing was over text on Microsoft Teams. No video call at all. The questionnaire they had me do felt real, it was on an official-looking site and was timed. They said I'd hear about next steps in three days. That was a Friday, so on Monday morning they told me I got the job.

They sent a W-4 and a contract. The contract seemed okay but it came through Adobe sign from an email, [email protected]. This paperwork was asking for everything—my Social Security number, my bank details for direct deposit, my driver's license, even my passport. It's all stuff you give a normal employer, but something felt off. I didn't end up putting my information in. I just hope this stops someone else from doing it. You really have to double and triple check these people.
