Caller claiming to be from Social Security scared my elderly mother

Somebody called my elderly mother yesterday from a Wisconsin number. The woman said her name was Pamela Crawford from the Social Security Administration and she had a slight Spanish accent. She gave my mom addresses of supposed customers and said Walmart left a number to authorize a purchase and that my mom had an account there.

My mom called the number they gave her. A man answered and said the call was being recorded and that the US Marshals and the FBI were on the line too. He told her her information was being used for money laundering in Mexico. He listed addresses in Ohio, New York, Wisconsin, and Texas. They said they would let her off the hook if she gave them info.

They asked her to verify her bank account numbers and social security numbers. She said they sounded very professional and legitimate. It scared her pretty bad.
