Fake rental agent on Redfin wanted $49 just to apply

My husband and I were looking at a home rental in southern California we found through a Redfin listing. He called the number for the agent listed, a guy named Adam, and Adam said we had to pay a $49 inquiry fee just to get access to an application. That felt off because no other rental agent ever asked for money just to let us apply.

So I looked up Adam's phone number online and found out it’s tied to a scam through some rental business called Locayt. I searched for more about Locayt and found a bunch of complaints from other people who paid the $49 with their credit card and then never heard from Adam again. Turns out the properties weren’t even really for rent.

It’s pretty outrageous that these scammers are still using Redfin.
