Someone called acting like a lawyer and took forty thousand dollars from me

Got a call from someone saying they were a lawyer. I don’t remember the exact company name they gave. They said there was some kind of legal issue I needed to handle right away or things would get worse. I was scared.

They told me to send money to an address in New York, NY. I sent forty thousand dollars. I thought it was real. After I sent it I realized it was a phishing scam. No real lawyer would do that. I never got any paperwork or anything.

I called the number back but nobody answered. I don’t know how to get my money back. I feel stupid.
